Changes to the Softball Spring Season

Important Announcement: Changes to the Softball Spring Season

Last year the league decided to leave Little League and become part of USA Softball & the Merrimack Valley Girls Softball League (MVGSL). This move was done to enhance the experience & excitement of playing softball with the addition of playing other cities and towns.

During the first few milestones of the year, our partners in other towns have coordinated divisions by grade to have more girls playing against their peers vs. following the USA Softball age matrix, which is what Woburn Little League follows.

After a lot of thought and consideration and taking into account the feedback on the level of competition last season, the Woburn Little League Board of Directors has made the decision to update our divisions to follow what the other towns are following.

Woburn Little League's Softball Divisions

  • Junior Softball
    • Grades: 7th – 8th
    • This division will play cross-town against our partners in the MVGSL under 14u Rules
  • Major Softball
    • Grades: 5th – 6th
    • This division will play cross-town against our partners in the MVGSL under 12u Rules
  • Minor Softball
    • Grades: 3rd – 4th
    • This division will play cross-town against our partners in the MVGSL under 10u Rules
  • AAA Softball
    • Grades: 1st – 2nd
    • In-Town division

This decision was not an easy one to make, especially this close to the start of the season, but we feel as if this was a necessary change to make sure we were providing the best experience for the girls.

  • Allows us to continue teaching the fundamentals in our AAA division for girls in 1st & 2nd grade
  • The city championship tournament for all Divisions except AAA will not change, this will take place in June.
  • Keeps all the excitement and fun of playing other cities and towns instead of a Woburn only schedule
  • Enhance the level of competition in cross-town games by matching girls with their peer group with the league all working together and creating teams equally
  • Increases the level of safety for our players with having more kids playing against their peer group
