Major Baseball

Ages 10 & 12

Woburn Little League's fourth level of baseball is the Majors Division. Similar to other divisions, coaching instruction is provided by parent volunteers. At this level, coaches continue teaching baseball fundamentals, participation and teamwork.

TEAM ASSIGNMENT

Major Baseball is an 10-12 year-old ability based division. Players will be required to attend a mandatory tryout in late fall & will be evaluated by the league and assigned managers. Returning players remain on the same team as the previous year. All vacancies on the team are filled via a new player draft for all eligible players. New players (aged 10 - 11) not selected for Majors will be re-assigned to the minors division. All new players aged 12 will be selected to a team. Players receive a uniform shirt & hat.

SEASON OVERVIEW

The spring season commences with the Woburn Little League Opening Day parade. All players are encouraged to march in the parade with their team. Teams will play at least 2-3 games a week with league assigned patched umpires. Games are played on standard sixty foot base paths (standard little league dimensions) with virtually all standard baseball rules adhered to with some limitations.

  • Teams bat in a continuous order, batting until three outs.
  • Players will pitch to other teams with pitching limitations (according to Little League rules by age)
  • Free substitutions exist for every player except the pitcher.
At the end of the year the team with the best record will be crowned regular season champion, each team will qualify for the playoffs with one team being crowned champion

GAMES/PRACTICES

Major Baseball also features cross-town games against teams from Lynnfield, North Reading, Stoneham, & Wilmington. Coaches may add additional practices at their discretion. Games and practices are held primarily at Weafer Park and Leland Parkusing 60-foot base paths (standard Little League dimensions).
