Woburn Little League's fourth level of softball is the Junior Softball division. Similar to other divisions, coaching instruction is provided by parent volunteers. At this level, coaches continue teaching baseball fundamentals, participation and teamwork.
TEAM ASSIGNMENT
Junior Softball is an ability based program for girls who are 13-14 years old. There will be 1-2 teams playing in the Merrimack Valley Girls Softball League (MVGSL). This is a travel division with possible games against Bedford, Billerica, Concord Carlisle, North Reading, Stoneham, Tewksbury, Wakefield & Wilmington.
The number of teams will be determined on the turnout of players registering and coaches volunteering. All players in grade 7 & 8 will have the chance to tryout for the division with rosters between 12 - 13 players per team. Any players not selected for Junior Softball will be re-assigned to the majors division.
Should there by a shortage of girls, we will make every effort to join with another team in the Merrimack Valley Girls Softball League (ex: 2022 was a combined Woburn/Wilmington team). Players will receive jersey, headband and socks.
SEASON OVERVIEW
Woburn is entered into the MVGSL. The regular season typically runs from the beginning of April to Mid-June including playoffs. Games will be typically played on Saturdays and Sundays (Final Schedule TBD). At the end of the year the team with the best record will be crowned regular season champion, each team will qualify for the playoffs with one team being crowned champion
Woburn Little League works closely with the High School program and offers Summer Softball Opportunities for all Junior Softball Participants.
GAMES/PRACTICES
Each game should last 90-120 minutes. Cross-town games will be played against teams from Bedford, Billerica, Concord Carlisle, North Reading, Stoneham, Tewksbury, Wakefield & Wilmington. Coaches may add additional practices at their discretion.
After the game, players line up at home plate and shake hands with their opponents. Sportsmanship is extremely important and is a continued focus at this level.
