Minor League Softball

Grades 3 & 4 (USA Softball Age Guidelines)

Woburn Little League's second level of baseball is the Minors Division. Similar to other divisions, coaching instruction is provided by parent volunteers. At this level, coaches continue teaching basic baseball fundamentals and teamwork.

TEAM ASSIGNMENT

Minors Softball Baseball is an 8-10 year-old ability based division. Players will be required to attend a mandatory tryout in late winter/early spring & will be evaluated by the league and assigned managers. All players aged 9 & 10 will be selected to a team, with the remaining slots filled by 8 year olds. 8yr olds not selected to a minor team will be assigned to a team in the AAA Softball division. Players receive a uniform shirt, headband & socks.

SEASON OVERVIEW

The spring season commences with the Woburn Little League Opening Day parade. All players are encouraged to march in the parade with their team.

The season then runs from late April through June. There will be 2-6 teams playing in the Merrimack Valley Girls Softball League (MVGSL). This is a travel division with possible games against Bedford, Billerica, Concord Carlisle, North Reading, Stoneham, Tewksbury, Wakefield & Wilmington.

GAMES/PRACTICES

Each team will play between 3 - 5 away games with 2 games scheduled against the other Woburn teams. The teams will play at least 2 games a week but possibly more. At the end of the year the team with the best record will be crowned regular season champion, each team will qualify for the playoffs with one team being crowned champion.

After the game, players line up at home plate and shake hands with their opponents. Sportsmanship is extremely important and is introduced at the youngest of ages.
